In 1998, a great company was founded. Google. While taking over the world was never the actual plan, they created an unofficial slogan that surprises none with their current status upon the world, “Don’t be evil.” In 1998 Larry Page and fellow PhD student, Sergey Brin were attending Stanford University together. They began to develop a way to organize information on the internet hoping to make it accessible to anyone and everyone.

After so many years of creating a search engine, Google started putting their feelers out into other types of options. While realizing not all avenues would be successful, Google has created a monster. Wikipedia states that “Google runs over one million servers in data centers around the world, and processes over one billion search requests every day” no matter if people are searching for antique chairs or online casino games.  Beyond their search engine, the company has developed a powerful and quite popular e-mail system, “Gmail” Gmail is known for its excellent storage per user. Software developers have made a program that compares to no other free e-mail client available.

While Gmail sat in beta for years, Google also created other things that helped the term “google” to become a verb in the dictionary. Most recently Google has created a popular and competitive internet browser called “Google Chrome” or often just “Chrome.” They have created an instant messaging system that not only runs as an independent client but also as a part of their e-mail system called ‘Google Talk.” Besides the internet based programs, Google has created a program that caters to a different type of Google audience, a photo editing software program called “Picasa.” Besides not having “Google” in the title, this application is merely about serving as a photo database and photo editing program that is often compared to an easy version of Photoshop.

Most recently though, they have explored the mobile phone business creating the Android operating system and a wide range of mobile phones.

Google really is trying to take over the world. Powerful thing she is, quite powerful.
